gluten free, wheat free, snacks, appetizersImpromptu happy hour at your house?  Unexpected visitors?  Want to impress your friends but don’t have time to cook?  If you need some quick and easy gluten-free appetizers, I have some fantastic ideas for you.  These are very low-effort, high reward, appetizer ideas that I guarantee you and your guests will love.  If you are looking for more appetizer ideas that aren’t straight “out of the box”, please check out some of our other recipes.

  1. Cheese and crackers – This is about as easy as it gets, but still my favorite appetizer.  Every Thursday, when my work out partner arrives exhausted and frustrated from work, instead of busting out the weights, I pull out the cheese and crackers and wine!  Much more fun!  A nice cheese board really raises this up a notch, as well as a few selections of cheese and crackers.  When you go gluten-free, finding crackers can be a challenge, so check out my post on my favorite gluten free crackers. (Ingredients: Trader Joe’s West Country English farmhouse Cheddar Cheese Truckle, Trader Joe’s Savory Thin Mini Crackers)
  2. Mini Chicken Meatballs – These little meatballs are just heaven.  They go fantastic with the cheese and crackers for those guests you really want to impress!  Just heat up these little tasty morsels in the microwave, grab some toothpicks or fun cocktail picks and you are set.  (Ingredients: Trader Joe’s Gourmet Chicken Meatballs)
  3. Mini Chicken Tacos – I’m getting hungry just thinking about these yummy, little tacos.  They are little corn tortillas, filled with chicken.  So thrilled to find something that doesn’t have a flour tortilla!  Heat these up for about 10 minutes in the toaster oven – that’s it.  Arrange these on a nice platter with healthy dollops of guacamole, salsa, and sour cream for a great presentation. (Ingredients: Trader Joe’s Mini Chicken Tacos, Trader Joe’s Avocado’s Number 5 Guacamole, Trader Joe’s Chunky Salsa, Trader Joe’s Light Sour Cream)
  4. Taquitos – My favorite are the bean and cheese taquitos – Trader Joe’s does have other varieties though.  These little gems are corn tortillas, with black beans and cheese.  Toast these up in the toaster oven and sprinkle some cheese over the top.  These go great alongside the Mini Chicken Tacos to really make a nice Mexican appetizer plate.  Of course don’t forget the dipping sauces – guacamole, salsa, and sour cream!  (Ingredients: Trader Joe’s Black Bean & Cheese Taquitos, Trader Joe’s Avocado’s Number 5 Guacamole, Trader Joe’s Chunky Salsa, Trader Joe’s Light Sour Cream)
  5. Brown Rice Tortilla Chips – This one takes slightly more effort than the previous appetizers – but is so worth it!  Take Trader Joe’s Brown Rice Tortillas and slice them either in strips or in triangles (like a pizza).  Spray a little olive oil on them and sprinkle on some Johnny’s (TJ’s doesn’t carry this, so here is a link to buy it).  Place them in the toaster oven until they crisp up and you are set.   These can be added to your Mini Chicken Tacos and Taquitos platter, serve them up with some hummus, or just eat them on their own, so tasty and well worth the extra few minutes of effort.  (Ingredients: Trader Joe’s Brown Rice Tortillas, Trader Joe’s Roasted Garlic Hummus)

Are you hungry yet?  What are some of your favorite appetizers?
