We love this little appetizer – a perfect combination of sweet and salty! It’s so easy to make ahead and then just toss under the broiler.
Ingredients used:
- 12 Trader Joe’s Fancy Medjool Dates
- 1 package Trader Joe’s uncured Applewood bacon, cut in halves
- Trader Joe’s Extra Virgin Italian Olive Oil Spray
- toothpicks to fasten
I set the kitchentop oven on broil and use the broiling pan sprayed with the olive oil spray. I opt to take the pit out of the dates first by slicing them and then sliding the pit out with my thumb. Next, wrap each date in half a slice of bacon and secure it with a toothpick. Place the dates in the pan and broil until the bacon looks done on that side. Flip to continue the process on the other side. All in all, about 20 minutes to fully cook the bacon. Remove and let drain/cool on some paper towels. Enjoy!
(p.s. Shani is going to kill me, but this Thanksgiving she ate 6 at one sitting! But here’s the thing, I’m not sure that’s her personal record!)
What is your favorite easy and fast holiday appetizer?
I’ve seen these little bacon-wrapped-yum-yums before! Looking great, as usual. I’m considering trying a gluten free diet (yes, that’s freaking out my husband) to battle my hypothyroidism. I will be using your recipes, of course!
Hi Susie! Yes these are a bit of a tradition for us now, so easy and delicious. You should try going gluten free, it’s not as hard as you might think. We also did the Clean Program to help narrow down a few of the other common allergens that were giving us problems. (Shani has problems with cream cheese, a weird one!) Good luck!
Very cool, just saw these dates at TJ’s and wanted to do the bacon-wrapped version of it because their apple-wood bacon is SO good! Another recipe adds cream cheese/parmesan along with an almond pressed inside. I am sorely tempted to cook some up this w/e, thanks for the pictures and posting…
